Raffia Swim was launched by the wonderful Mexican woman Ana Paola in 2017 between Zurich and Cancun. Her mission with Raffia is to create timeless and sustainable swimwear pieces that can be worn season after season, moving away from the fast fashion practices. After moving to New York in 2012 she followed her studies at The Fashion Institute of Technology, where she graduated with a degree in textile development & marketing.

The fabrics & ethical production makes Raffia a pioneer in marrying luxury with sustainability. Their eco-luxe swimwear is made using a high quality regenerated and eco-friendly fabric made in Italy. All of their fabrics meet the Oeko-Tex Standard 100, ensuring the responsible use of chemicals during the entire production process of their fabrics and making sure that no toxic substances are entering your pores while wearing it.

Recycling Fishnets and Plastic Bottles: The Process

What makes Raffia special is that their fabrics are hyper-resistant, thin, elegant, stretchy, soft and breathable: a unique mix of muscular compression and comfort. Thanks to this innovative construction, they are twice as resistant to chlorine, sun exposure, sun creams and oils compared to normal swimsuit fabrics.

The Process: Fish nets, plastic bottles, fabric scraps, old carpet flooring, and other Industrial plastics are gathered from landfills & oceans. This waste is then sorted & cleaned. The waste is regenerated and purified using depolymerization, breaking down the waste and returning it to its true and most simple form. The already regenerated Nylon is then transformed into textile yarn, which is then knitted into a high-quality Italian Fabric. Their eco swimwear is made using the regenerated Nylon fabric.

Their sustainable approach extends to their packaging: from 100% recycled hang tags, to their print free receipts policy by replacing everything with e-receipts.
