Cano was created by two old school friends from Germany, Lukas and Philip, with the aim to preserve traditional Mexican craftsmanship in a modern world. We are deeply impressed by the dedication and craftsmanship that goes into their traditional huaraches. Every single product tells its own story: where they come from, what they are made of, and who made them - providing maximum transparency.

Cano works with local workshops in Mexico, providing its artisans who are the heart and soul behind their products with a great place to work and payment of a living wage to lift its artisans out of poverty and provide opportunities for education, housing and a healthy life.

Huaraches Made From Vegetable Tanned Leather

Contrary to the typical mainstream shoes, CANO uses chrome-free and vegetable-tanned leather, ensuring that no harmful chemicals are released to the artisans and Mother Earth. The process takes 28 days, and the leather comes from local free-range cows.

Moreover, these woven leather sandals and shoes don't have plastic soles but are made of natural rubber or old yet highly durable aircraft tires.

Trust us, these unique, statement-making shoes balance comfortable breathability with style, making these easy-going shoes your favorite for summer!

Full Transparency To Connect with the Artisans

At the end of 2018, the two founders decided making their unique kind of transparent production possible for the entire fashion industry. For this purpose they founded their second start-up "retraced" in March 2019. With "retraced", the founders want to offer customers a new shopping experience through transparency in production and digitalization in communication. In 2019 "retraced" was awarded the special prize for digitisation and sustainability as part of the German Sustainability Award 2020.
