Honest Basics

Honest Basics launched in 2018 and is a GOTS-certified basics brand based in Germany. They're on a mission to make sustainable fashion accessible to everyone, by keeping their prices low, making quality basics that everyone has in their wardrobe and by constantly improving the sustainability of their products and their supply chain. 

Most of their items include organic cotton. Some of the benefits of organic cotton include that no herbicides and pesticides are used and significantly less resources are used to grow it. For example: it is estimated that organic cotton uses up to 91% less water than normal cotton.

The clothing is made in one partner factory in Bangladesh, where the working conditions are good. The factory is also GOTS certified, which indicates that the factory works under safe and healthy working conditions and provides living wages. Honest Basics visits the factory once a year to see this with its own eyes. We are often criticized for producing in Bangladesh. Our stand point is this: Bangladesh is unfortunately a very very poor country. Our partner-factory is providing a safe working environment and stable income to over 5.000 people directly and many more indirectly. Imagine what an impact this has on some of the poorest, uneducated people in one of the poorest countries of the world. We believe that our business helps the factory to help its workers.
